Story
A woman wrapped in an orange robe holds a fan and studies a vase of white peonies set against a brown backdrop and a green surface below. William Merritt Chase made this piece in 1889, working in pastel on paper, prepared with a tan ground, then wrapped around a wooden strainer with canvas. Chase, an American painter associated with Impressionism, created the image now held through the Daniel J. Terra Collection.
