Story

Gentle hills rise and fall across the composition, dotted with low vegetation and a scattering of trees, while a stretch of water catches the light beneath a sky filled with soft white clouds. The scene is rendered in oil, completed in 1895 by William Merritt Chase, an American painter associated with Impressionism. The piece came to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston as a gift from Mrs. James W. Glanville.
