Story

A figure dressed in pale clothing with a touch of red at the waist casts a line while standing on stones at the edge of a vivid blue waterway, shadowed banks of dense woods rising on either side. The piece was rendered in watercolors on paper in 1880. Winslow Homer (1836–1910), an American painter associated with realism, also worked as an illustrator and photographer, and created the notable piece A Country Lad.
