Biosphere: Orchids

Story

White orchids rise on green stems inside a geodesic framework, set against a background scattered with stars. The dome's triangular panels contain the blooms while the dark sky stretches behind them, suggesting a sealed habitat under open night. Alexis Rockman painted this scene in oil on wood in 1993. Rockman, born in 1962 and working within pop art, was active as a painter in the United States.

Where it works
