Sunflowers

Story

Several sunflower blooms rise on green stems, their leaves spread against a backdrop of alternating yellow and green bands set on a pale cream surface. The flat stripes behind the plants create a decorative rhythm that contrasts with the more rounded, organic shapes in front. The piece was made in 2007 using oil and acrylic on wood. Alexis Rockman, an American painter born in 1962, worked within the pop art movement.
