Story

A banana flower unfolds against deep shadow, its layered petals glowing magenta, yellow, and green, rendered with careful botanical precision. The bloom appears almost sculptural, set apart from any surrounding foliage so its structure dominates the frame entirely. Alexis Rockman made this piece in 2009 using oil, acrylic, and resin on wood. Rockman, an American painter born in 1962, worked within the pop art movement.
