Story
Rounded, overlapping organic forms drift across the surface in black, brown, yellow, and teal, set against a pale cream and white ground, suggesting an abstracted landscape rather than any literal scene. The piece was made in oil on cardboard in 1927. It carries the inventory number 531 at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. The artist, Arthur Dove (1880–1946), was an American painter and draftsperson, also known for Black and White.
