Story

A radiant yellow disk sits at the center of rippling rings in gray, white, and soft yellow, suggesting a sun pulsing outward in waves of light. Arthur Dove made this image using opaque and transparent watercolor with pen and black ink on wove paper in 1936. The piece entered the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art through the Ella Gallup Sumner and Mary Catlin Sumner Collection Fund. Dove, an American painter and draftsperson who lived from 1880 to 1946, also created Black and White.

Where it works

Cool-toned artwork suited to dens and media rooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
