Story
An angular arrangement of planes suggests a landscape pared down to its essentials, with greens, browns, reds, and earthy tones meeting in sharp, overlapping shapes rather than realistic detail. The piece combines mixed media and watercolor on wove paper, created in 1942 by Arthur Dove, an American draftsperson and painter who lived from 1880 to 1946. It entered the museum as a gift from William C. Dove.
Where it works
Warm-toned artwork suited to dens and media rooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
