Story

A woman kneels among four children inside a shadowy cave, where soft golden light breaks through the rocky setting and warms the figures' faces. Painted in oil on panel, later moved onto canvas, the work dates to 1478 and now hangs in the Louvre Museum. Leonardo da Vinci, born in 1452 and died in 1519, worked within the High Renaissance tradition.
