Four Peonies and a Crown Imperial

Story

A vertical arrangement rises against a dark backdrop, showing a yellow crown imperial blossom near the top, paired with a white peony, a red peony, a pink peony, and an unopened bud below. The composition is rendered in watercolor and gouache over graphite on parchment mounted on board. Pierre Joseph Redouté (1759–1840), a Belgian artist who worked as a botanical illustrator and botanical collector, created this detailed study of flowering plants.

Where it works

A cool-toned floral still life suited to dining rooms and libraries, and to hotel guest rooms, in a vertical format.
