Tulipe de Gesner [Tulipa gesneriana L.]

Story

Three tulips rise against a plain beige backdrop, their blossoms rendered in rich purple, a warm yellow-red, and bright yellow, each atop a slender green stem. The composition is a stipple engraving finished with watercolor, created in 1827. The piece is attributed to Pierre Joseph Redouté (1759–1840), a Belgian artist who worked as a botanical collector and illustrator, titled Tulipe de Gesner.
