Tulips and Roses

Story

Striped blue and white tulips rise beside soft pink roses, their green leaves arranged against a plain cream backdrop. The composition balances the sharp petal patterns of the tulips with the gentler, rounded forms of the roses. This piece, titled Tulips and Roses, was made in 1802 using stipple engraving and watercolor. Pierre Joseph Redouté (1759–1840) worked as a botanical illustrator, holding Belgian and French citizenship.
