Boat Going Through Inlet

Story

A stylized three-masted boat moves through dark blue water, framed by sand dunes rising beneath a cloudy sky rendered in cream, beige, and blue. The scene is painted in oil on tin, completed in 1929. The piece reflects the hand of Arthur Dove (1880–1946), an American painter and draftsperson. It is held by the Terra Foundation for American Art, having come to the collection through its art acquisition endowment fund.

Where it works
