Flour Mill II

Story

Rounded storage tanks rise beside a small tower on top, rendered in soft cream, gray, and green, the whole mill reduced to simplified cylindrical forms. The composition, made with pen and black ink and transparent watercolor on wove paper, dates to 1938 and is credited to Arthur Dove, an American draftsperson and painter who lived from 1880 to 1946. The piece entered the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art through the Ella Gallup Sumner and Mary Catlin Sumner Collection Fund.
