Tom Roberts was a leading figure of the Australian Impressionist movement and a central member of the Heidelberg School. After studying art in London, Roberts returned to Australia in the 1880s and became passionate about capturing the unique light, atmosphere, and rural life of the Australian landscape through plein-air painting. He established influential artists’ camps around Melbourne and mentored fellow painters such as Arthur Streeton and Charles Conder.
